The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
