The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
