A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
