Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Join My servants. 29 enter My Paradise! 30
