The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
