The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamud (people) denied (their Prophet) through their transgression (by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism, and by following polytheism, and by committing every kind of sin). 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
