In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
