The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By those [angels] who extract with violence 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 And those who glide swimmingly, 3 by the angels who hasten along 4 And who plan the implementation. 5 Upon the day when the first blast shivers 6 Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): 7 Hearts on that day shall palpitate, 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 They say, "What? shall we be brought back to life, 10 After having turned to carious bones?" 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 But it will be only a single blow, 13 And lo! they all shall appear on the surface. 14 Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses? 15 when his Lord called him in the holy valley of Tuwa, 16 and directed him: “Go to Pharaoh, he has rebelled, 17 and say to him: 'Are you willing to be purified, 18 And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him? 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance); 21 then he turned away hastily, 22 And assembled (his council) and proclaimed, 23 And he said: I am your Lord, most high. 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 Surely there is a great lesson in it for whoever would fear (Allah). 26
