The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
