The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
