He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe [of God] 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
