Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
