The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
