They will question thee concerning the Spirit. Say: 'The Spirit is of the bidding of my Lord. You have been given of knowledge nothing except a little.' 85 Had We willed, We could take away what We have revealed to you, then you would find none to help you in recovering it from Us. 86 But on account of mercy from your Lord-- surely His grace to you is abundant. 87 Say: If men and jinn should combine together to bring the like of this Quran, they could not bring the like of it, though some of them were aiders of others. 88 We have indeed turned about for men in this Koran every manner of similitude; yet most men refuse all but unbelief. 89 They have said, "We shall never believe you until you cause a spring to gush forth from the earth, 90 or, until you own a garden of palms and vines and cause rivers to gush forth with abundant water in them; 91 Or thou causest the heaven to fall upon us, as thou assertest, in pieces, or thou bringest God and the angels face to face. 92 or thou have a house [made] of gold, or thou ascend to heaven - but nay, we would not [even] believe in thy ascension unless thou bring down to us [from heaven] a writing which we [ourselves] could read! Say thou, [O Prophet:] "Limitless in His glory is my Sustainer! Am I, then, aught but a mortal man, an apostle?" 93
