Noah (Nooh)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Bee (Al-nahl) before Abraham (Ibrahim)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
We sent Noah forth to his people, saying, "Warn your people before there comes upon them a grievous punishment." 1 He said: O my people! Surely I am a plain warner to you: 2 that you should worship God [alone] and be conscious of Him. Pay heed to me. 3 “He will forgive you some of your sins, and give you respite up to an appointed term; indeed the promise of Allah cannot be averted when it arrives; if only you knew.” 4 Noah said, "My Lord, I have been preaching to my people, night and day, 5 but my pleas have only increased their aversion. 6 Each time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears and wrapped themselves in their garments, and persisted becoming very proud. 7 Then I summoned them openly, 8 And lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in private. 9 Then I said, Ask forgiveness of your Lord, surely He is the most Forgiving: 10 He will send you abundant rain from the sky, 11 And He will add unto you riches and children and will appoint unto you gardens and will appoint unto you rivers. 12 What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur 13 when He has created you through different stages of existence? 14 Do you not see how Allah has created the seven heavens, one above another, 15 And hath placed the moon therein for a light, and hath made the sun a lamp? 16 And Allah hath caused you to grow from the earth as a growth. 17 and He will later cause you to return to it and will then again bring you out of it. 18 "'And God has made the earth a wide expanse for you, 19 so that you might walk thereon on spacious paths.'" 20
