The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 a fitting requital, 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
