He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
