The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
