The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
