O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
