The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 goblets of silver that they have precisely measured. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
