The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By [the winds] that pluck out vehemently 1 And those who undo the bonds gently, 2 And by those who float in space, 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 and by those who regulate events. 5 The day the convulsive (first blast) shatters convulsively 6 to be followed by further [convulsions]! 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 Their looks will be downcast. 9 They say: "Shall we go back to our original state 10 Even after we are crumbled bones? 11 and they say, "That indeed would be a losing return." 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 And lo! they will be awakened. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: 16 That “Go to Firaun – he has rebelled.” 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 ‘And I may guide you to your Lord, so that you may fear.’” 19 So he showed him the great sign, 20 But he denied and disobeyed, 21 Then he turned his back, striving. 22 And he gathered [his people] and called out 23 then said: 'I am your lord, the most high' 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
