The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
