A throng of the ancients 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 And say: "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
