He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
