The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He verily will be content. 21
