۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
