The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Meem. 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 In a near land, and they, after being vanquished, shall overcome, 3 in a few years. All power belongs to Allah both before and after. On that day will the believers rejoice 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 [It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers. 8 Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than these in prowess, and dug up the earth, and built on it in greater abundance than these have built on it, and there came to them their apostles with clear arguments; so it was not beseeming for Allah that He should deal with them unjustly, but they dealt unjustly with their own souls. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
