The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 facing one another. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and shade extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
