The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
