Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
