Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
