[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 and said, 'What, shall we follow a mortal, one out of ourselves? Then indeed we should be in error and insanity! 24 "Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!" 25 'They shall surely know tomorrow who is the impudent liar. 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 “And inform them that the water is to be shared between them; only those may come whose turn it is.” 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 How was then My punishment of which they had been warned? 30 We sent upon them a single blast of sound and they were left like hay to be used by the cattle. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn 34 As grace from Us. Thus We reward him who giveth thanks. 35 He had warned them of Our might, but they passed over the warnings. 36 they even wanted to seduce his guests -- but We blinded them, and said, "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" -- 37 And certainly a lasting chastisement overtook them in the morning. 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 40
