The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
