The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
