The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and amid the extended shade 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
