In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
