Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
