We commanded Moses: "Journey by night with Our creatures, and strike a dry path for them through the sea. Do not fear being overtaken, nor have dread of any thing." 77 And Firon followed them with his armies, so there came upon them of the sea that which came upon them. 78 For Pharaoh had misled his nation, and did not guide them. 79 O Children of Israel; We delivered you from your enemy, and treated with you on the right side of the mount and sent down upon you the manna and the quails. 80 "Eat from the wholesome things with which We have provided you but do not transgress, lest you should incur My wrath." [We said], "He that incurs My wrath shall surely be ruined. 81 And lo! verily I am Forgiving toward him who repenteth and believeth and doeth good, and afterward walketh aright. 82 ۞ And what hath made thee hasten from thy people, O Musa? 83 He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased." 84 Said He: "Then [know that,] verily, in thy absence We have put thy people to a test, and the Samaritan has led them astray." 85 Moses returned to his people full of wrath and grief, and said: "My people! Has your Lord not made good an excellent promise He made to you? And has a long time passed since those promises were fulfilled? Or was it to incur the wrath of your Lord that you broke your promise with me?" 86 They said: "We broke not the promise to you, of our own will, but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh)] people, then we cast them (into the fire), and that was what As-Samiri suggested." 87 Then he produced the image of a calf which mooed like a cow. And they said: 'This is your god and the god of Moses (whom) he has neglected." 88 What! could they not see that it did not return to them a reply, and (that) it did not control any harm or benefit for them? 89
