A multitude of those of old 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
