Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
