The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
