Most certainly We revealed to Moses: "Proceed with My servants in the night and strike for them a dry path in the sea. Have no fear of being overtaken, nor be afraid of treading through the sea." 77 Pharaoh pursued them with his hosts, but they were fully overwhelmed by the sea. 78 For Pharaoh had led his people astray and did not guide them. 79 O children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount, and sent down for you manna and quails, 80 Saying: eat of the clean things wherewith We have provided you, and wax not exorbitant in respect thereof, lest My wrath alight on you; and upon whomsoever My wrath alighteth, he surely perisheth. 81 But I am most forgiving towards him who turns in repentance and believes and acts righteously and follows the right path." 82 ۞ The Lord asked, "Moses, what made you attend your appointment with Me before your people?" 83 'They are upon my tracks,' Moses said. 'I have hastened, Lord, only that I may please Thee.' 84 He said: Lo! We have tried thy folk in thine absence, and As-Samiri hath misled them. 85 With great anger and sorrow, Moses returned to his nation. 'My nation' he said, 'did your Lord not make you a fine promise? Did the time of the covenant seem long to you? Or did you desire that the anger of your Lord should fall upon you so that you failed in your coming to my appointment' 86 They said: we failed not to keep thy appointment of our own authority, but we were laden with burthens of the people's ornaments; then we threw them, and thus the Samiri cast down. 87 and made a calf for them, a figure that lowed. "This," they said, "is your god and the god of Moses but whom he has forgotten." 88 Did they not see that it did not give them any answer, nor had it power to do them harm or bring them gain? 89
