The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 none can avert that. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
