The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
