Al-Hijjr 3 of 6
And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 Said He, 'Then go thou forth hence; thou art accursed. 34 And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense." 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved 37 "Till the Day of the time appointed." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 verily, thou shalt have no power over My creatures - unless it be such as are [already] lost in grievous error and follow thee [of their own will]: 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
