'Aad denied the messengers 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
