Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
