He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
