Have you heard the story of Abraham's honoured guests? 24 When they came to him they said, "Peace!" He answered, "Peace!" [saying to himself]. "They are strangers." 25 He went quietly to his wife and returned to his guests with a fat, roasted calf. 26 And placing it before them said: "Won't you eat?" 27 He felt afraid of them; but they said: "Have no fear," and gave him the good news of a wise son. 28 Then came forward his wife, clamouring, and she smote her face, and said, 'An old woman, barren!' 29 They said: "Thus said your Lord. He is indeed all-wise and all-knowing." 30 ۞ (Abraham) said: "And what, O ye Messengers, is your errand (now)?" 31 They answered: "Behold, we have been sent unto a people lost in sin, 32 so that we bring down stones of clay upon them 33 marked out in thy Sustainer's sight for [the punishment of] such as have wasted their own selves." 34 So We removed the people who had faith, from that town. 35 but We found not therein except one house of those that have surrendered themselves. 36 and We left therein a sign for those who fear a painful punishment. 37 There is another sign in Moses: We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 but he turned his back, with his court, saying, 'A sorcerer, or a man possessed!' 39 So We seized him and his hosts, and We cast them into the sea, and he blameworthy. 40 There is another sign in the [tribe of] 'Ad, when We sent against them a life-destroying wind 41 It spared naught that it reached, but made it (all) as dust. 42 And in Thamood it was said to them: 'Take your enjoyment for awhile' 43 Then they disdained the command of their Lord; wherefore the bolt laid hold of them even while they looked on. 44 They were unable to stand up, nor were they helped. 45 Before all these We destroyed the people of Noah: they were a wicked people. 46
